#Activist #Humanitarian #Segregation
In 1925 in Omaha Nebraska an African American child was born, the fourth among seven sibings this young child was named Malcolm Little and he grew up to become an advocate for the African American community, this man who was one of the greatest and most influential activist in history was and still is known to many as Malcolm X. Those who were against him said his activism was that of racism and hate.
Malcolm’s father who was a Baptist lay speaker instilled black pride in his children but sadly died when Malcolm was six years old. Malcolm’s mother was placed in a mental hospital a few years later which saw him being placed in numerous foster homes. A stint in jail saw Malcolm becoming a member in the Nation of Islam and subsequently becoming a leader in this religious sect. Malcolm was married to Betty Sanders a young lady he met one of his lectures, they had six daugters Atallah, Qubilah, IIyasah, Gamilah and twins Malikah and Malaak.
Malcolm was a human rights activist who understood the price of freedom. He spoke out and put his life on the line for the next generations to experience freedom. Segregation is a state of mind that comes from fear of the unknown. We separate ourselves because we are afraid to accept one another. We are self aware and fail to realise that our neighbour regardless of race or creed is our ally. Our beliefs separate us because of our unwillingness to learn. Malcolm was a constant critic of other activists such as Martin Luther King. In 1965 he was assassinated by three members of the Nation of Islam after repudiating membership in this sect. In his advocacy Malcolm X mainly focused on black supremacy, the separation of black and white Americans, civil rights movements and integration.
There is no price for FREEDOM.
